John Ray once said “Beauty is power; a smile is its sword”. And it is true, a smile can define your persona. A smile is defined by your lips, like it or not your lips are the key ingredient to a memorable and infection smile. Ever more in todays culture, that perfect pout is the must have for many women, driven by influences from the extrovert Kardashians to more subtle looks of BBC News presenters. At Skin Radiance, I have seen a huge increase in the number of ladies looking to perfect their smile, something I love to help them accomplish through Dermal Fillers, and I strive to accomplish an entirely natural look and steer clients away from the unnatural Kardashian look.
What we find attractive is rooted in our DNA, with well-known formulas for facial features such as symmetry being a key driver in perception of beauty. However, until now, there has been now formula for what is scientifically regarded as the perfect pout. Until now that is...
Scientists in America have conducted a study on white women, published in the JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, which looked at the upper and lower lip ratio to determine what is the upper and lower perfect pout ratio.
They did this through using a computer to create a “synthetic morph” of images from eighteen different women, which the computer manipulated to show various lip dimensions on the same face. These were then surveyed by focus groups who scored on which image they found most attractive.
The current trend is often for a larger upper lip, and some celebrities taking it one step further by having some would call ‘huge’ and overly filled lips. However, this directly contradicts what the research discovered, with a 1:2 ratio (1 being upper lip, 2 being lower lip) considered most attractive in the study, combined with a more natural look. In short, the focus groups deemed the pout to be more attractive if it were full but not overly filled, and the lower lip was twice as big as the upper lip. This is something that aligns with the look I strive for at Skin Radiance, and I will be happy to discuss your personal needs during a free consultation.
However, beauty as they say, is in the eye of the beholder and so whatever the ‘look’ you strive for, you can rest assured that at Skin Radiance you will be safe, with a patient-first approach to what I do, grounded by well over 10 years conducting complex clinical procedures as a nurse.
