Time for Winter Skin Peel?

January 26, 2018

Winter is unfortunately the worst season for you skin. Caused my many different factors such as: flitting between the cold outdoors and centrally heated rooms, increasing the amount of make-up you wear, fresh air being replaced by artificial air, dry skin build-up that causes acne and the hats and scarves that press against your skin throughout the season.

All of the above contribute to the worst condition your skin will be in all year and whilst it’s a pain for you, your poor skin is suffering even more! Whilst treating your skin with shop-bought products can help to alleviate some of the discomfort and issues associated with your skin during the colder months, underneath the potentially damaged top layer of skin is a new, fresh layer of skin that can be accessed through a low-risk procedure that doesn’t need a plastic surgeon to do it. With proven effectiveness, a skin peel might well be the saviour you’re looking for this winter.

What is a Skin Peel?

A skin peel is a chemical treatment in which a gentle acid solution (we offer Glycolic Skin Peels), is added to the skin. The aim of this is to enhance and smooth the texture of the skin which targets wrinkles, blemishes, age spots, acne and uneven skin pigmentation.

In general, a skin peel can be classified into three different types: light, medium or deep. Opting for a light chemical peel will remove the epidermis (top layer of skin) and is effective in treating wrinkles, age spots, dryness and uneven pigmentation. If you go for a medium skin peel, the treatment will penetrate the epidermis as well as the upper layer of the dermis (which is the middle layer of skin), helping to treat deep wrinkles as well as pigmentation, acne and acne scars. The deep skin peel will penetrate the skin further than the light and medium peels and address more serious imperfections such as blotchiness, coarse wrinkles and acne scars - it has a far more dramatic result and only a single treatment is required.

How Does it work?

Skin peels exfoliate the outer layer of dead skin bringing the new layer of skin to the top. This skin layer will have improved texture, tone and even colour. Certain types of skin peels can also help to eliminate acne and acne scars, leaving you with smoother, fresher skin. The effect is immediate and can be done as an outpatient treatment or even at home!

Why would you want a Skin Peel?

Unfortunately, many of us at some point fall victim to skin imperfections such as:

  • Sun damage
  • Build up of dead skin which clogs pores
  • Wrinkles
  • Ageing spots
  • Post acne scarring
  • Rough patches
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dark circles

These can make us feel less confident and unhappy with our skin’s appearance; it may even be causing medical issues. By having a skin peel treatment, the look of your skin can dramatically improve, leaving it smoother, plumper, tighter and generally more healthy. For whatever reason you want to reduce or get rid of any of the above skin imperfections, a skin peel could be just what you need.

Why a Winter Skin Peel?

Having been exposed to the sun for the last few months and then being taken back into stuffy centrally heated rooms, your skin will not only be trying recover from potential sun damage, but is also dealing with clogged pores and dry skin. By removing the damaged top layer, you’re allowing your skin to enter into a new phase, untainted by previous damage or mistreatment. Winter is a great time for a skin peel that will leave you and your skin feeling fresh and rejuvenated.
